What a Cornerstone student studies

  • Literature
  • Latin
  • Math
  • Science
  • History
  • Geography

Classical education teaches students how to order things rightly and judge them well. Every subject is tied back to Scripture, so children learn to hear echoes of the gospel in what they read, count and memorize.

And the skills to serve with

Manners, gardening, sewing, cooking, building, music and art are part of school here. So is the Missionaries in Training class, where students learn there are many ways to be a missionary: they can pray, give, or go.

  • Part-time kindergarten

A morning kindergarten option for families who want a shorter school day.

  • Homeschool partnership

Morning core subjects or afternoon enrichment classes like P.E., art and Readers Theater, while you keep your homeschool structure.

Trivium is Latin for “where three paths meet.”

A classical education follows the way children actually grow, in three stages. Cornerstone teaches the first, and hopes to add the next two as the school grows.

GrammarLogicRhetoric
  1. Grammar

    Up to about age 12

The foundation: memorization, recitation and repetition. Young children are naturally good at this, so this is when the facts go in.

    Taught at CCS today
  2. Logic

    About ages 12 to 15

Students learn to think critically, asking clarifying questions to make sense of everything they have learned so far.

  3. Rhetoric

    About ages 15 to 18

Students begin to form their own ideas and share the knowledge they have gathered in the first two stages.

A one-room schoolhouse, on purpose

Children of different ages work alongside each other here. They hold each other accountable to grow in four things:

  • grace
  • grit
  • gratitude
  • grammar

A student can spend more time where they are weak and move ahead where they are strong. That builds real grit, and it lets children take ownership of their own work.

Meet the teachers

Each one engages students differently. All four share the same passion: serving Jesus by teaching the children of this community.
